A/40th remained in Kuwait until the 13th of March when A/40th was ordered to move forward, back into Southern Iraq. We moved into place just south of the Basra district. We were tasked to coordinate with 3rd Armored Division's 2nd Brigade and provide reinforcing rocket fires for one of our fellow DIVARTY units, 4/82 FA, an M109 Paladin artillery battalion.

At night, we could easily observe the firefight between the recently defeated Iraqi military and the rebellion forces in the city of Basra. Iraqi forces were firing into their own city, at their own people, in an attempt to quash the civilian uprising against Saddam Hussein. Though 3rd Armored Division's 2nd Brigade did interdict along Highway 8, searching Iraqi vehicles for soldiers and weapons, we did not engage any enemy forces during this time period.

A/40th's mission in Southern Iraq continued until 2 April when we ordered to move off the demarcation line in Iraq and return south to Kuwait. We utilized the remains of a Kuwaiti air base to perform some much needed vehicle maintenance and to prepare for redeployment to our home base on Francois Kaserne, in Hanau, Germany: Hopefully soon.
